Duncryne Hill Project

The Trust has received a grant of £10,000 from the Big Lottery Fund – Investing in Ideas – to explore the options for future community involvement in improving access on the Dumpling. The options appraisal and business plan have now been completed. The conclusion reached is that Kilmaronock Community Trust should acquire Duncryne Hill with the aim of improving the access and managing the woodland to enhance a community asset for the benefit of the local users and visitors to the area.

The fully costed business plan shows that the community could source funds to purchase the land, improve the paths and woodland and then maintain this into the future. KCT also had Duncryne Hill valued and this valuation figure has to form the basis of any purchase. Unfortunately the owners are not willing to sell at a figure around the valuation so KCT is unable to take this any further at present.

Information from the study is being provided to the National Park Authority and the owner so that it can be used for improving the path through the woodland and on the hill.
