Art Group
Art Group
The Art Group was in existence well before the Millennium Hall was built and took place in the old Hall and latterly in the Primary School, now of course we use the Millennium Hall on a Tuesday evening.
The group, or class, as some would have it known, is concerned with drawing and painting and the skills required for success. Hitherto we have placed major emphasis, initially at least, on drawing – especially with beginners. Drawing is, of course, regarded by all artists as the basis for all good art; it is an essential tool in creating a successful work. A drawing can be a work of art in itself, and often is; and it can include the use of colour. All this sounds a bit pompous, but in plain language, we are interested in drawing and the use of colour to represent the appearance of the object in front of us, be it an everyday object, a plant, still life group, portrait, and so on. With experience thereafter, students can and often do, produce work of some ambition – see the results of the art section of the Gartocharn Show (sometimes referred to as the Flower Show) over the last few years.
Raw beginners, who may not have drawn or painted since their schooldays, are as welcome as those with more extended experience. All you require is enthusiasm. This enthusiasm, in the past, has produced from the group the ability to win top prizes in the aforementioned show, and we hope to continue this tradition!
We meet on Tuesday evenings from 7.00 pm till 9.00 pm. There is no fee other than a token amount to cover the cost of renting part of the upper floor of the hall. The tutor of the group is John Crawford, D.A., B.A.
Anyone interested in joining us should turn up at the Hall on any Tuesday (summer months of May, June, July and August are excepted) or phone John Crawford at 01389 830313 for more details.
