Monday 14 May, 2012

Active School

Netball Club
There has been a most positive response from P4 to the invitation to join the netball club on a taster basis, commencing this Wednesday.

Polaroid Fun Run 10th June
Please remember to hand in your entry.  There has been a steady flow of entries coming in and this is looking good.

Travelling Green
I am hugely encouraged by the numbers of pupils in P5/6 who are walking to and from school for all or some of the distance.  Parents are thanked for their co-operation and assistance.  Next week is the official Walk to School Week.  An information leaflet will be sent home

P1/2 Football Festival
P1/2 will be attending a football festival on Thursday of this week. Please remember to come to school ready for PE, but also to have some warm and waterproof protection from the chilly winds which blow in and around the stadium.  Pupils should bring a water bottle and a snack.

Badminton Club Session 2012/13
I shall be writing to parents of the current P5 and P6 class with a view to establishing a register of those pupils who would like to attend badminton club on Monday evenings from 6pm – 7pm next session.

Sports Day
There has been a good response from parents willing to mark/score or take part at sports day.  We are just shy of one or two competitors. If you feel you could give it a go, please just let me know.  We are expecting Mr. Bell, an official Olympic starter to speak to the school today about the Olympics and his work.  Mr. Bell is also Lydia’s granddad!

Eco School
The Eco Committee has issued rag bags and all items are requested to be in by 28th May.  Due to pressure on space, please do not send rag bags in to school before Monday 21st May.  If you require another bag, then please just let Mrs.. McPhail know.  She has a few spares.

The Eco Committee met recently with Mrs. Law to plan an Eco Themed Lunch Menu in June.  This will focus on locally sourced products, thus reducing transport costs to and impact on the environment.

Visits/Outings

Balloch Library P3/4
P3/4 will visit Balloch Library on Thursday to attend a workshop led by Maria Cairney a well established children’s author.

Diamond Jubilee “Wee Tea Party”   Wednesday 30th May
Order forms for tickets will be issued today.  The Pupil Council are willing to act as cashiers, so payment (60p) will be requested at the door on production of a ticket.  Many many thanks to all the offers of baking.  Mrs. Law will supplement the cakes with sandwiches.

As with all school events the drop- off zone will be used as a car park for the tea party and for the Motivators’ Concert.  Please, however, if you can, walk to school or share a car to reduce congestion.

Recently I spoke with parents of children who will be starting school in August.  Amongst a number of topics discussed was the traffic management system in place.  Procedures as requested are not always being followed currently.  As there are many “new” parents who will be using the car park and drop off zone, it would be most helpful if “established” parents would provide good role models.

Parent/Teacher Meetings
I am hoping to issue the Annual School reports by Friday 25th May, but as this exercise is taking much longer than anticipated to complete they may perhaps not be issued until Monday 28th May.

Parents’ evenings will be held on 7th June from 7pm – 9pm and again on Thursday 14th June from 7pm – 9pm. If you have a preference for one of these dates, please could you let Mrs. McPhail or me know by Monday 21st May? This will help in compiling the appointments schedule.

School Uniform Order Forms
Uniform order forms will be issued very shortly.  Please could these be returned no later than Monday 28th May in order that Mrs. McPhail can process these timeously?

School Play
Many thanks for the offers of assistance from those who are unable to attend the meeting on Friday afternoon.  I shall most certainly be in touch.  For those pupils who are regrettably unable to attend the performance on the evening of Friday 22nd June,  an opportunity to take part in the dress rehearsal performance on the afternoon of Thursday could perhaps be provided…………….

Primary Press
We intend to have the next edition rolling off the press by the end of this week. It will be on sale at a cost of 75p from the Pupil Council Shop on Tuesdays.

And yet again finally………………!!

There must be something catching in the air!  Our much loved, long-serving (or should that be long–suffering?)  Mr. AND Mrs. Young will both be retiring at the end of the session. They will be sorely missed.
