Picnic in the Play Park
Kilmaronock Community Trust organised a very successful "Picnic in the Play Park" on Saturday 20 August 2011. The main purpose of the day was to celebrate the completion of various improvement works within the park. The day ran from 10.00 am – 2.00 pm nicely filling the gap between handing in entries for the flowershow and then going back to find out who had won the various classes and to look at all the exhibits. The project was carried out by Kilmaronock Community Trust working with Loch Lomond and the Trossachs National Park Authority and the West Dunbartonshire Environment Trust.
Jackie Baillie MSP cut the ribbon and officially opened the refurbished park. She said "A small village like Gartocharn needs to have a place where children can play safely. Play is an important part of growing and learning as well as having fun. It is great to see such a facility really well used".
Sheila Cronin, chair of KCT said: "We have been working hard with other organisations to upgrade the Play Park. The new safety gates set back from the road were the last bit to be finished. Many thanks are due to the LL&TNPA who provided the funding for the project and to West Dunbartonshire Environment Trust who provided the expertise and the workforce."
Around 60 adults and children came along to enjoy the sunshine, the children enjoyed playing on the bouncy castle, leaping around on the bouncy balls, playing Connect 4 (not necessarily by any known rules!), scoring goals and generally having a good time. A quiz had also been arranged which was very popular and the children all received a small gift. Parents, grandparents, friends and children thoroughly enjoyed catching up with each other and eating their picnic (including scrumptious cakes and gingerbread men!) in the play park – all in all a very successful event!
